David Lindsay was born in 1946 in Greenwich, where he was introduced to sailing that began a lifetime passion for the water. In 1964, he graduated from Trinity Pawling School, where he played lacrosse and hockey. David attended St. Lawrence University and started a freshman lacrosse team that was undefeated that year. In 1968, he took a year off to sail and race 27,000 miles on a 73-foot sailboat named Ondine, winning every major ocean race in the Atlantic that year. He began his business career in 1971 helping build the Snowbird Ski Area in Alta, Utah, and then joined the Olin Ski Company working with the professional racing program and the exhibition ski team. In 1974, he joined UK Sailmakers and, for the next 14 years, helped expand the business into an international organization with 17 franchise sailmakers worldwide and also sailed with the best offshore sailors of the time. David began a second career in 1988 with Rand
Insurance, where he currently is vice president of sales, offering personal and commercial insurance. He and his wife Teal live in Rowayton and have one adult child and one grandchild. He is a member of Noroton Yacht Club, Silvermine Golf Club, Weston Gun Club, Storm Trysail Club and Ten Mile River Preserve in Dover, N.Y. He also is a member of Ducks Unlimited, U.S. Sporting Clays Association and Connecticut State Golf Association. He served on the parents’ board of Greens Farms Academy and the board of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce. He enjoys boating, fishing, golf, clay shooting and upland bird hunts. He also spends time working with Labrador Retrievers.
