Richard White was born in Oakland, Calif., in 1949 and grew up in Manhasset, Long Island, N.Y. He graduated from Manhasset High School in 1967, where he was active on the tennis and lacrosse teams, skiing, drama club and physics club. He graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1971 with a B.A. in economics and a minor in physics. At St. Lawrence, he was active in the theatre group, the tennis team, the sailing club and the National Ski Patrol. Upon graduation, Richard started work with Chubb and Son, a commercial casualty underwriter. This was followed by several years as risk manager for Avco Corp. In 1977, he switched to the broker side of the business and has continued in that capacity through present day. Richard and his wife Virginia live in Darien. They have two daughters and four grandchildren. He belongs to the Country Club of Darien, the Sound Sailing Center in Norwalk, the John Street Club, the Risk and Insurance Management Society, and Little Flower Family Services. He enjoys tennis, paddleball, golf, sailing, skiing, woodworking, painting, sculpturing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, travel and volunteer social work.
