Eighteen-year-old Ahmad, the son of an Irish-American mother and long-gone Egyptian father, is contemptuous of the self-indulgent society surrounding him, and devoted to the teachings of Islam, becomes drawn into an insidious terrorist plot

My best read was The Terrorist by John Updike.  Published about 2007, it can be obtained in paperback for around $10 a copy.  It is the story of a young devout Muslim high school student who becomes radicalized and then volunteers to drive and explode a truck bomb in the Lincoln Tunnel underneath the Hudson River as well as the efforts to stop him. Fiction but could very well be real.  John Podkowski
